As part of the firm’s recognition as a Healthcare Practice Group of the Year, Law360 published a profile of Bass, Berry & Sims featuring the practice’s highlights from the past year. In the profile, Law360 notes that “over 300 attorneys at Bass Berry work on healthcare industry matters, with expertise spanning transactions, regulatory issues and enforcement and adjacent areas including antitrust, privacy and executive compensation.”

Law360 cites several examples of the firm’s work which led to the 2025 ranking, including serving as lead counsel to:

  1. New York-based private equity firm Sycamore in its $23.7 billion acquisition of Walgreens.
  2. Ambulatory surgery center network AmSurg in a definitive agreement to be acquired by nonprofit Catholic health system Ascension Health.
  3. Wellvana in the acquisition of CVS Health’s Medicare Shared Savings Program business.

Speaking about the intersection of the regulatory and M&A aspects of a deal, Angela Humphreys said “Being able to understand how a particular regulatory issue impacts a buyer’s business and economics following a transaction is important, and many of our senior lawyers in our healthcare practice have an M&A background.” Angela serves as chair of the firm’s Healthcare Practice and co-chair of the firm’s Healthcare Private Equity team.

The profile also referenced our recent litigation victories in two False Claims Act cases – one in Utah and another in Tennessee detailed at the links below:

  1. Representation of Physician Practice: U.S. ex rel. Khoury v. Mountain West Anesthesia LLC (D. Utah)
  2. Representation of Health System: U.S. ex rel. Adams v. Chattanooga Hamilton County Hospital Authority (E.D. Tenn.)

In speaking of the practice’s future, Angela spoke about expanding the roster of talent saying, “We are continuously looking to onboard great lawyers who fit with us culturally and have the type of experience that our clients want and need, particularly in the private equity space.”
